The Polar bear's body is adapted to extreme arctic climates, travelling on ice, snow and open water.
The white coat the polar bear has helps it camouflage with it's surroundings. The camouflage helps it to hide from human hunters, and it is used when they stalk their prey.
Their thick fur has a dense layer of underfur over a thick layer of fat beneath its skin, it is how they keep warm. The soles of the polar bear's feet have small bumps that provide support and prevent it from slipping on the icy and snowy terrain.
The polar bear has physical attributes to help it hunt. It has large, jagged canine teeth and grinding surfaces in its cheek teeth. It also has large, strong paws for hunting seals in holes in the ice. The claws are sharp, straight, non-retractable.
With a highly acute sense of smell, they are skilled hunters that can pick up a scent from over 30 kilometres away, and can detect the presence of seals under three feet of snow and ice. Polar bears have no natural enemies and consequently no fear.
Polar bears have a life expectancy of approximately 25 years.
